Welcome
The EAU will hold its 25th Annual EAU Congress in Barcelona from 16-20 April 2010. We will be celebrating a milestone event that will bring together medical professionals from around the world. The latest news in the field of urology will be presented here. Therefore we welcome all press representatives from Europe and beyond to this congress. More than 11,000 delegates together with approximately 3,000 company representatives are expected to attend the Annual EAU Congress in Barcelona.
EAU Press Event
The official EAU press event will take place on Saturday 17 April from 12.00 to 13.30 hrs in the Press Conference Room (level 0, room Berlin). A welcome reception for all members of the media is included. This year’s EAU press event is a round table discussion entitled: Prostate cancer screening in Europe – the debate continues. The focus will be on the future of European healthcare policies in terms of prostate cancer screening. What is going on in Europe now?
We are very pleased that Mr Alojz Peterle (SI), Member of the European Parliament, will contribute to the discussion. The following issues will be addressed and discussed:
· Brief explanation of the importance of the most recent results from the ERSPC trial (Prof Schröder) and the SPCG-4 (Prof Holmberg) and their possible impact on prostate cancer screening policy in Europe;
· Short description of the current situation in prostate cancer screening in larger European countries, i.e. the UK (Chris Chapple), Sweden (Per-Anders Abrahamsson), Italy (Walter Artibani) and Germany (Manfred Wirth), the developments over the past year and what should be done in the future;
· Professor Denis (Secretary Europa UOMO): What impact do recent developments have on the ‘man in the street’? What do they expect from their governments with regard to prostate cancer screening and is this feasible?
· Mr Alojz Peterle (MEP): political views on actions against cancer and where should we go from here (discussion)?
· EAU’s point of view (Per-Anders Abrahamsson, EAU Secretary General)
Prof Hamdy (GB) will be chairing the meeting. Media representatives are invited to take part in the discussion and query the experts.
