The EAU will hold its 25^th Annual EAU Congress in Barcelona from 16-20 April 2010. We will be celebrating a milestone event that will bring together medical professionals from around the world. The latest news in the field of urology will be presented here. Therefore we welcome all press representatives from Europe and beyond to this congress. 

In 2003, the EAU also chose Spain as the European country of choice to host its Annual Congress. At that time 9,290 participants, delegates and sponsors, visited Madrid, Spain’s capital. This time, more than 11,000 delegates together with approximately 3,000 company representatives are expected to attend the Annual EAU Congress in Barcelona. 

The success of the Annual EAU Congress underlines the crucial role of the scientific programme’s quality. In recent years we have not only seen an increase in the number of participants but also the growth and development of what is now an outstanding scientific programme. We received a record number of abstracts this year. A wide range of topics will be presented, including paediatrics, bladder cancer, female urology, renal cell carcinoma, reconstruction and functional urology, Benign Prostatic Obstruction and stones. 

The centrally located Fira Gran Via, one of Spain’s largest congress venues, has been chosen as the venue for the 25^th Annual EAU Congress. Covering an area of 365,000 m² the Fira Gran Via boasts advanced congress facilities and state-of-the art trade fair technology. Barcelona’s hotels, commercial and tourist districts are all within easy access.

Press conference room
Facilities are provided for industry press conferences in the press conference room (level 0). Industry officials and their communications agents can obtain free registration for their press conference and for the time it is being built up and dismantled.

EAU Press Conference

The official EAU press event will take place on Saturday 17 April from 12.00 to 13.30 hrs in the Press Conference Room. A welcome reception for all members of the media is included. This year’s EAU press event is a round table discussion entitled: Prostate cancer screening in Europe – the debate continues. The focus will be on the future of European healthcare policies in terms of prostate cancer screening. What is going on in Europe now?

Prof Hamdy (GB) will be chairing the meeting. The EAU Executive Committee will contribute to the lively discussion by talking about the situation in their home country. Professors Schröder (NL) and Holmberg (SE) will talk about their studies and experiences and Professor Denis (BE) will represent the patient perspective. Mr Alojz Peterle (SI), Member of the European Parliament, will talk about the political views on actions against cancer. Professor Per-Anders Abrahamsson, EAU Secretary General, will focus on the EAU point of view.
